An organised racket of misappropriation of wheat and rice in connivance with the Rice Mills, Food Corporation of India, Warehouses, the officials of the Food Department was going on in the State leading to misappropriation and diversion of thousands of tonnes wheat and rice for illegal purpose. CID, West Bengal conducted raid upon few Rice Mills in Uttar Dinajpur district and unearthed a huge racket of misappropriation of rice. In this case the Rice Mill Owner and officials of Food Department and their associates were arrested who are now on bail. Around 4133 quintals of misappropriated rice could be recovered. Similarly, 14 trucks carrying rice and wheat approx 3630 quintals which were loaded from FCI godown in Nadia district were seized when they were getting emptied at some other location in Nadia District itself rather than going to their destination in Malda district. It could be ascertained that entire misappropriated wheat /rice was supposed to be smuggled to some buyers in Odisha. CID, West Bengal is keeping watch on all such activities.
